The short camel ride starts from AED 150 per person.
Q02

Young children can ride with adult support. Independent riding depends on age, height, and handler approval.
Q03
Is camel riding fast or bumpy?
+
It is a slow walking pace with a rocking motion, not a high-speed activity.
Q04
Can camel riding be added to a safari?
+
Yes. Camel riding is commonly bundled with safari, camp, BBQ, and photo stops.
A camel ride Dubai is the slowest, most authentic, most photographed of all desert activities. The camel was the original engine of Arabian trade — for two thousand years before fuel, the camel crossed dunes that no other animal could. Riding one today, even at a tourist's pace, connects you to that history in a way no buggy or quad ever could.
Searching camel ride Dubai, camel safari Dubai, camel trekking Dubai, or camel ride near me? This page covers our experience: where you ride, the camels we work with, durations, prices, what's included, who can ride, and how to book.
All rides depart from our private Bedouin camp in Al Lahbab, ~45 minutes from central Dubai. Hotel pickup included for guests in city Dubai. Our camel handlers are second-generation Bedouin who know each animal by name.
The Camels: Our Trained Herd
We work with a herd of 12 camels — all dromedaries (one-humped Arabian camels), all hand-trained from young age, all veterinary-checked monthly. Each has a name and a personality. Saja is the gentle senior, perfect for nervous first-time riders. Hamoud is the steady leader who walks the caravan. The younger camels (Naji, Salim) are more energetic and assigned to confident riders.
Welfare standards: rides are limited to 25 minutes per animal per cycle, with rest and water breaks. We don't run mid-day rides in summer. No more than 1 rider plus 1 child saddle per camel. We do not rent camels for solo unsupervised use — every ride has a Bedouin guide leading the caravan.
Camel Ride Durations & Pricing
15-minute ride (AED 150 per person): Standard tourist ride. Mounted at the camp, walk a 500m loop on the dune ridges, dismount back at the camp. Includes phone photo by the guide. The default booking.
25-minute extended ride (AED 200 per person): Longer loop reaching a sunset viewing point. Best for sunset bookings between 4pm–6pm.
1-hour heritage trek (AED 350 per person, by appointment): Slow caravan-paced ride with two guides, traditional Bedouin tea break on the dunes, photography stops, and a brief explanation of camel handling and Bedouin trade history. Minimum 4 guests, advance booking required.
Where We Ride
All camel rides are within our permitted Lahbab dune zone. Routes are along the softer ridges (camels prefer firm ground but can handle slip-faces at slow walking pace). Sunset rides include a short stop on a higher ridge for photos. Morning rides include a stop where the rising sun's rim-light makes silhouettes.
What's Included
Camel + saddle + bridle. Bedouin guide leading the caravan. Phone photos taken by the guide (free). Water bottle. Hotel pickup if booked as a standalone, or included free if booked as part of any safari/combo package. Camel rides are also included for free in all evening desert safari packages — most guests get their first camel ride that way.
Who Can Ride: Age, Health, Comfort
Minimum age 3 years with adult on the same camel (child saddle attachment provided). Independent riders 12+ on their own camel. Maximum age: no limit, but riders 70+ should let us know — we can pair you with a slower camel and a guide who walks closely.
Health: camel mounting and dismounting requires the animal to kneel (it's a forward-back rocking motion). Severe back issues, recent surgery, or hip replacement should be discussed before booking — for those guests we offer the option of mounting from a wooden block. Pregnant women in 1st trimester may ride; 2nd-3rd trimester not recommended.
What to Wear and Bring
Long trousers (camel hair brushes the inside of legs — shorts get itchy). Closed shoes. A scarf for women is welcome but not required. Sunglasses. Phone in a zip pocket. Skip flowing fabric, hats with loose brims, anything that can blow off.

Frequently Asked Questions About Camel Riding Dubai
Is it ethical? We follow welfare standards strictly: limited ride hours per animal, monthly vet checks, rest/water breaks, no hot-day rides, no overload. The handlers are experienced Bedouin who treat animals as working colleagues, not props.
Will the camel spit on me? Almost never with our tame herd. Camels spit when stressed; ours are calm because they're handled by people they know. If you tease them, they might. Don't tease them.
Is it bumpy? Camel walk is rocking-side-to-side, slow rhythm. Less bumpy than horse trot. Most guests find it comfortable within 60 seconds.
Can I take a phone photo while riding? Yes, but hold the phone tightly. The guide will also take photos of you.
